Major interior renovation to an existing Penthouse in a 15-story nationally-registered historic landmark building in the East Bay, built in 1929. The project program included a new living/dining room; a kitchen with an “island” countertop for dining and cooking; a new foyer/ gallery/ hallway; a new guest bathroom; new gym; laundry area; revised master bedroom; new study area; and a master bathroom. The project attempts to respect the historically significant status of the existing structure and to weave the new contemporary detailing technics with deep respect and sensitivity to the existing historically significant structure. One of the most unique aspects of the Penthouse is it breath-taking 360-degree panoramic view of the Berkeley Hills, Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge and Downtown Oakland. SIM Architects served as the Architect-of-Record in collaboration with Studio Hillier.
