Our Lady of La Vang Capital Project is an ambitious joint project of the Diocese of San Jose and Our Lady of La Vang Parish (OLLV) in Downtown San Jose. The new master plan envisions the redevelopment of the entire city-block to rebuild the historic 1890 structures extensively damaged in a fire in 2012. The project attempts to reinterpret the past history of the site with new 21st Century design approach with use of materials, texture and massing. The center aisle has a “boat”/ Noah’s Arc integrated into the ceiling structure highlighted by an extensive LED lighting system. The exterior parti is signified by “parallel” structural wall system that are further articulated with a “samurai”-sword cut expressed with a very tall dark bronze-colored steel plate to edge the end points of the “parallel” walls. They appear to be very tall vertical materials/expressions in the overall landscape.
