Extensive Modernization of the existing Fire Station #64 in South San Francisco. Transform existing “crowded” non-private shared “bunker”-style residential hall into private “hotel-like” dormitory rooms with new acoustically-rated interior walls. In addition, the project scope included new code-compliant restrooms, locker/shower areas, work-out room and kitchen/dining area. SIM Architects also revised and improved the circulation flow at the existing apparatus bay; improved ventilation at apparatus bay to meet current code requirements; and re-designed the existing entry area to meet ADA requirements. Design objective was to create a “hotel”-like quality to the fire station to allow the much-needed restful atmosphere for the fire fighters.
